Ad Astra Per Aspera: To the Stars through Difficulty. This is Kansas' motto as well as my adopted motto for my middle school students in Detroit. This blog hopes to offer a daily perspective of the difficulties and stars I'll be experiencing as a Teach for America Corps member in the D.
Last day in Kansas. Know what I did?
Ate sunflower seeds
Rode a Bison
Sang like a meadowlark
Fought a teenage mutant ninja Box Turtle
Made a Home on the Range out of a Cottonwood tree
Cooked a pancake flatter than Kansas
Tossed the pig skin with Barry Sanders
Got fat with Kristy Alley
Tipped a tightrope with Janelle Monae
Punched Fred Phelps in the face
Desegregated my laundry colors and whites just like of Brown V Board
Flew a plane out of the Air Capital
Burned some prairie grass on the Flint Hills
Put a band-aid on the “Welcome to Kansas” sign so it would stop “Bleeding”
Inbred a blue jay, a parrot, and hawk to actually make a Jayhawk.
Tame a wildcat
Okay… so I didn’t do any of those things… but they’re pretty awesome right? Except we all know wildcats can’t be tamed. I mean come on.
